The Tabernacle
Nestled in the community of Oak Bluffs, the Tabernacle is the centerpiece of a historical area known as the Campground, and is also home to clusters of iconic gingerbread cottages. Built in 1879, this meticulously preserved wrought iron structure still serves as a house of worship and community gathering place, as it has for generations. Concerts, lectures, and other live performances are held here, as well as weekly services, and has been designated as a National Historic Landmark.
The Flying Horses Carousel
Built in 1876, The Flying Horses Carousel is the oldest platform carousel in the nation. It was originally featured on Coney Island and then relocated to its present home in Oak Bluffs in 1884. The craftsmanship and artistry of the horses is stunning and features real horse hair tails, hand-painted flourishes, and inset glass eyes. The carousel remains open to the public for rentals and special events.
Offshore Ale Company
Known for being Martha’s Vineyard’s only year-round brewpub, this popular local spot has been serving award-winning craft beer since 1997. The menu features classic New England bar fare like fish and chips, steamed mussels, and even crispy thin-crust pizza. Offshore’s star-studded resume includes accolades like Best Year-Round Restaurant, Best Bar/Pub, and Best Family Restaurant on Martha’s Vineyard. The brewpub is open every day for lunch and dinner.
Art Cliff Diner
This fun local joint has been serving up creative comfort food in Martha’s Vineyard since 1949. Start your day by sidling up to a fresh stack of coconut banana pancakes, french toast, eggs benedict or spicy pulled pork hash. For lunch, there are plenty of delicious choices, including fish tacos, the corned beef sandwich, or the restaurant’s signature burger. This spot is conveniently close to the marina and is open for breakfast and lunch with a food truck onsite in the evenings for quick bites.
The Black Dog
Founded in 1971 by a local sea captain and his four-legged best friend, this cultural fixture of Martha’s Vineyard is one of the few local restaurants open year-round. Conveniently located just steps from the marina, The Black Dog serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and has plenty of iconic Black Dog merchandise for sale in the onsite shop. Fresh, local ingredients are prioritized here and the menus feature delicious comfort classics with a few special twists.
Waterside Market
This year-round market and cafe located in Vineyard Haven offers all-day breakfast as well as chef-inspired soups, salads, and sandwiches made fresh daily. If you’re planning to spend an afternoon on the beach, make plans to order from Waterside’s to-go menu, which is full of convenient and delicious options to take along with you. Both indoor and outdoor seating is available to enjoy the pleasant ambiance of the cafe and its surroundings.
