Port Royal Community Beer Garden & Public Access Beach

Born out of necessity during the COVID-19 pandemic, Port Royal Community Beer Garden continues to operate as a Friday and Saturday night outdoor gathering place for folks to enjoy a cold beer and a great bite to eat. Featuring live music and local food trucks, this weekly community hangout has become a welcomed addition to Port Royals’ many popular attractions. Conveniently located onsite at the marina, the Beer Garden and public access beach make for a fantastic casual outing with friends or a date.

Port Royal Sound

This coastal sound located in the Sea Islands region of Beaufort County serves as an estuary for several rivers, including the Broad River. The sound is an angler’s paradise for reeling in speckled trout, redfish, and flounder. Populated with oysters and marsh grass, the estuary provides the ideal environment for “sea life nurseries,” and is one of the most productive ecosystems in the world. You can learn more about this remarkable habitat and its history at the Port Royal Sound Foundation Maritime Center.

Hilton Head Island

Dubbed “America’s Favorite Island,” Hilton Head features 12 miles of gorgeous beaches along with everything you need for relaxation and recreation. Hit the links on one of the island’s many world-class golf courses, practice your tennis game, go on a bicycle adventure with the family, or book a fishing charter for the perfect day on the water. There’s no shortage of things to do, places to go, and beauty to experience at Hilton Head–so be sure to make plans to spend at least a day or two here soaking up the sun.

Port Royal Boardwalk at The Sands

Head to this favorite local spot for a great day by the water. The boardwalk, built in 1987 and located onsite at the marina, is ideal for fishing, crabbing, or even just taking in the gorgeous view from the observation tower. The beach is a hotbed for shark teeth and will keep the collectors among you busy for hours combing the shore for little treasures. Cars are also conveniently permitted on the beach and tailgating is a fun and popular activity here.

The Daufuskie Cat Island

This unique refuge was founded in 2011 to minimize the problems once posed by the feral cat population in the area. Now the happy home of over 70 cats and kittens, this fully enclosed rescue facility is managed by volunteers who regularly come to feed, shelter, and look after the felines. Contact the sanctuary to set up a visit or to volunteer your time for this worthy cause. The purrrfect opportunity for animal lovers to shine.

Fish Camp on 11th

For “a taste of Lowcountry living in a historic waterfront setting,” head on over to Fish Camp on 11th Street. This lively little local treasure is a hot spot for fresh seafood–from the impressive raw bar, to Lowcountry boils, to full fish dinners. The landlubbers among you won’t be forgotten, though–there are plenty of other delicious options to choose from on the menu, including soups and salads, ribeyes, filet mignon, and roasted chicken. Fish Camp’s pet-friendly patio has swings where you can sit and enjoy the sunset with a refreshing cocktail, cold beer, or glass of wine in hand. Only a short walk from the marina, this unique eatery is perfect for savoring a great family meal after a day out on the water.
