After sailing around the world 2019-20, I stored my Swan 44 MKII at JBY last winter, and flew in from Ohio last week to find it completely recommissioned, rigged, clean inside and out, and in perfect running condition for our motor-sail home to a Lake Erie. Jim Archibald and his crew handled every detail exactly as I hoped, and even let us use the yard’s vehicles to get provisions and supplies. These guys certainly lived up to expectations as a Swan service yard.

I recently moored my boat here while vacationing in Jamestown. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. The boat tender came quickly, and the operators were always polite. If I come back to Jamestown, I'll certainly bring my boat back here. Great place

Mackerel Cove

This deep, secluded cove on the island of Jamestown is prized for its calm waters and tranquil natural beauty. The shallow pools and gently lapping tide are perfect for families with young children and tentative swimmers to enjoy a day of splashing and playing along the sandy shore. Gorgeous tangles of beach roses cover the surrounding dunes, making this secret spot all the more enchanting. Be sure to pack plenty of drinks and snacks, as there are no concessions sold on the grounds.

Fort Wetherill

Situated majestically on towering 100-foot tall granite cliffs facing Fort Adams State Park and boasting spectacular views of Newport Harbor, this former coastal defense battery is a popular viewing sight for tall ship events and America’s Cup Races. It is also a prime spot for scuba diving, and is outfitted with a boat ramp that is accessible year-round. Other popular activities at the park include picnicking, hiking, fishing, and exploring the 60+ acres of gorgeous natural surroundings.

Beavertail Lighthouse Museum

Located on the southernmost tip of Jamestown, Rhode Island, the museum details the rich maritime history of the the third oldest lighthouse in North America. Visitors will enjoy viewing a wide range of artifacts on display related to the historic structure as well as information pertaining to the science, technology, art, and culture of the Narragansett Bay. After perusing the museum, many guests continue their exploration in the spectacular Beavertail State Park.

Jamestown Newport Ferry

In operation from late May to mid-October, the Jamestown Newport Ferry rotates through a regular five-stop schedule that includes Jamestown, Rose Island Lighthouse, Fort Adams, Ann Street Pier and Perrotti Park. Riders can hop on or off at any point and can explore shops, restaurants, and other fun attractions. Seal tours and private charters are also available for booking.

The Narragansett Cafe

This Jamestown favorite for quality pub fare and lively live music line ups is the perfect spot to spend a fun night out. Pull up a chair to a bowl of creamy homemade clam chowder, an order of fresh clam cakes, a basket of garlic parmesan wings, a loaded cafe burger, or a tender New York strip–everything on the menu here is simple, fresh, and delicious. The cafe is open 7 days a week and serves a fabulous all-day brunch during the offseason.

Slice of Heaven

This family-owned spot in Jamestown is known for its fresh bakery items, specialty coffee, and a variety of delightful breakfast and lunch selections. From scrumptious muffins, scones, and croissants to hearty breakfast burritos, burgers, and gourmet sandwiches, Slice of Heaven’s menu is filled to the brim with delicious inventions, including several gluten-free and vegetarian options. Guests can enjoy their meal in the sunshine outside on the patio or cozied up at a table inside the cafe’s welcoming dining room.
