Square Grouper

This popular dining spot has been serving up innovative takes on fresh and local seafood in Islamorada since 2003. The atmosphere is refined, but charming in all the right ways, from the sunny patio seating to the chalkboard specials for lunch and dinner. Get the meal started right with the Yellowfin Tuna and Avocado Eggrolls before moving on to the Square Grouper Seafood Stew or the Truffled Lobster Mac. A delicious assortment of pasta, steak, and chicken dishes round out the menu, with plenty of options for salad, soup, tacos, and jasmine rice bowls in between. If you’re more in the mood for an ice-cold cocktail, delicious small plate shareables, and a front row seat to our gorgeous seaside sunsets, pop in to the Sunset Lounge Islamorada, our rooftop cocktail bar directly above the Square Grouper.

Fishing / Spearfishing – Bonefish, Red Fish, Snapper, Grouper

Hailed as the “Sportfishing Capital of the World,” Islamorada is a paradise for fishing vacations catered to all ages, skill levels, and approaches. Species native to the area include Tarpon, Bonefish, Permit, Snook, Snapper, Mahi Mahi, Sailfish, Grouper, Red Fish, and many more. Charter fishing is popular here, giving you the freedom to explore endless flats and mangroves in the Everglades with the expertise of a local guide. Spearfishing, kayak fishing, party boat fishing–there really is no wrong way to fish in these parts, as long as you enjoy the company.

Islamorada Whale Harbor Sandbar

Easily one of the most popular sandbars in the Florida Keys, this idyllic tropical spot features crystal clear water, fine white sand, and shallow waters perfect for a day of lounging and playing. The sandbar is narrow and easy to access, even without a boat, and is a popular destination for kayakers and paddle boarders launching out from Islamorada. Take extra care not to disturb the native seagrasses near the sandbar, as they are vital to this delicate ecosystem and will help preserve this stunning oasis for years to come.

Alligator Reef Lighthouse

What do pirates, a mysterious shipwreck, and an old lighthouse have in common? The story behind the Alligator Reef Lighthouse holds the keys to this cold case. Built in 1877 four nautical miles from Islamorada, the lighthouse stands guard in honor of its namesake, the USS Alligator. The ship was sent out to the Caribbean in 1822 in pursuit of stolen ships commandeered by bands of pirates. The ship ran aground in Alligator Reef and after a long and desperate struggle, the crew was forced to destroy it. Many other ships met a similar fate, necessitating a permanent beacon to guide the way. Today, visitors frequent this spot to see the lighthouse and to snorkel the waters surrounding it, which are teeming with over 500 species of marine life, and of course, the shipwrecked remains of the USS Alligator and its unlucky contemporaries. This popular excursion is ranked #6 for Favorite Attractions in Islamorada on Trip Advisor and is the recipient of a Traveler’s Choice Award.

Cruisin Tiki Charter

In case you’re wondering, the best of both worlds is indeed possible, and it’s alive and well at Cruisin’ Tikis Islamorada. Here you can take the laid back festive vibe of a classic Tiki bar experience out to sea with you, along with some of your favorite people. Imagine a fleet of floating Tiki bars outfitted with boat motors, each manned by their own captain and complete with a cooler full of your favorite drinks. Cool, right? Take your party and float into the sunset, hang out at the sandbar, or meander along scenic waterways on one of many fantastic cruise packages. If you’re ready to take your next happy hour, date, or ladies night to a whole new level, book a cruise with this spirited island crew today.
