Detroit River Fishing Opportunities

Located between Lake St. Clair and Lake Erie and bordering the U.S. and Canada, the 28-mile-long Detroit River is teeming with over 65 species of fish. Some of these include the whitefish, sturgeon, silver bass, largemouth bass, steelhead, perch, muskie and walleye. Anglers can fish from the shore or boat and local charters are available to book for guided excursions.

Belle Isle

This 982-acre recreational island park on the Detroit River is the country’s largest city island park and is a fascinating spot to explore during your stay. Settled by the French in the 1700s and designated as a relaxing getaway from city life, the island now is home to a nature center and trail, picnic pavilions, sports fields, a playground, and beach access. The Detroit Yacht Club and the Detroit Boat Club are also located here as well as the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory, the Belle Island Aquarium, and the Dossin Great Lakes Museum.

Hopcat

After a long day on the water, treat yourself to a cold one at Hopcat, Detroit’s largest beer bar endeavoring to serve the “best beer on the planet.” Since opening in 2008, Hopcat has been listed among the top 50 bars in the U.S. by Draft magazine, among many other national accolades. Here you’ll find an extensive selection of brews, specialty cocktails, and a full menu–complete with small bites and shareables, burgers, tacos, and Hopcat’s signature Cosmik Fries. If it’s still early, drop by for their daily brunch and don’t leave without trying the Salted Caramel Chicken and Waffles.

MGM Grand Detroit

Bringing “the best of Las Vegas to the heart of Detroit,” the MGM Grand Detroit is a luxury resort and entertainment destination catered to guests 21 years of age and older. The hotel features a casino, spa, lounges, entertainment venues, a Top Golf Suite, fitness center, and several excellent restaurants and eateries to choose from. With everything you could need or want at your fingertips, MGM checks all the boxes for the perfect one-of-a-kind getaway while you’re in Detroit.

Detroit Princess Riverboat Cruise

Hop aboard the largest dinner cruise in the Midwest for a fabulous afternoon or evening out with family or friends. In operation since 2005, the Detroit Princess riverboat cruises have a reputation for excellent service and guest accommodations. Enjoy a variety of delightful live entertainment options including murder mystery theater, live bands, DJs, and much more aboard a 5-deck vessel with gorgeous views of the Detroit and Windsor skylines. Each cruise is equipped with a fully stocked bar and elevators for easy access to all levels.

Eastern Market

Founded in 1841 and spanning 43 acres, Eastern Market is the largest outdoor farmer’s market in the nation and plays a vital role in Michigan’s thriving food industry. Dine at one of the many fabulous restaurants, pursue the shops, galleries, and artisan kiosks, or pick up some fresh produce and locally made food products from the many excellent vendors. There’s so much to see and do here, so make sure to build in plenty of time to explore.
