SH Dauntless Shipyard is, without doubt, the best marina on the Connecticut shoreline. We slipped & stored two boats there, year-round, from 2013-2022. Henry and his team did a wonderful job restoring and upgrading our "older" 31' Downeast boat. Attention to detail and quality workmanship is their "standard operating procedure". We sold our boat (at a premium) several months ago, but, the next one (there's always a "next one", right?) will go straight to Dauntless for year-round care...

Drift Waterfront Restaurant
Located at Safe Harbor Dauntless Shipyard in Essex, Connecticut, Drift Waterfront Restaurant specializes in showcasing the bounty of the sea and the produce of the season. The menu is meticulously composed from the highest quality ingredients and features an array of selections–from fried oysters, lobster rolls, fish and chips, and lobster mac and cheese. Guests can dine in indoor or outdoor dining areas and enjoy expansive views of the harbor.
Selden Creek
This incredible preserve is known for its scenic trail that winds through an enchanting forest and ends on the precipice of a stunning overlook. Considered to contain one of the most biologically significant tidal wetlands of the Lower Connecticut River, the Selden Creek Preserve is home to an expansive number of bird species, including the bald eagle. During the spring, vernal pools near the trail provide important habitats for salamanders and amphibians. Visitors to the preserve are welcome to take part in hiking, canoeing, birdwatching, nature study, and cross-country skiing.
The Tree Swallows
Witnessing the annual migration of tree swallows in Connecticut is a truly unforgettable experience. From late August to late October, clouds of hundreds of thousands of birds can be seen funneling in tornado-like patterns across the sky, skimming ponds and lakes for food and swirling in dramatic choreographed displays. The best way to view the swallows is from watercraft during the early morning hours or at dusk. Various guided tours are available for those who want to learn more about these incredible birds and their migratory patterns.
