Shem Creek
Known as one of Mt. Pleasant’s most popular dining and drinking districts, the Shem Creek Boardwalk spans over 2,000 feet, running from Coleman Boulevard to the mouth of the creek. With views on all sides of the marsh and Charleston Harbor, the boardwalk makes for an excellent outing for a scenic stroll after lunch or dinner. Boaters can tie up on one of the many floating docks, and there is parking available if you plan to come by car. The Charleston Water Taxi is a good option to take if you’re already downtown.
Folly Beach
No trip to Charleston is complete without a day at the legendary Folly Beach. In this gorgeous stretch of wide, sandy, coastline, you’ll find the perfect setting for anything from kayaking and fishing to eco-tours where nature lovers can learn about the endangered species native to the area. The sunsets here are everything to write home about—so gather the family and bring a camera to capture the special moment you can look back on fondly for years to come.
Red’s
Voted “Best Waterfront Bar,” “Best Mt. Pleasant Bar,” and “Best Outdoor Patio” for multiple years and counting, Red’s is a friendly spot on historic Shem’s Creek where folks come to enjoy a cold beer, fresh local seafood, and epic Charleston sunsets. The menu has a little of everything depending on your appetite–from little nibbles, oysters, and dips to share with the table to signature plates like downhome shrimp and grits and the Lowcountry boil. Fried seafood baskets, sandwiches, burgers, soups, and salads round things out, with plenty of options to satisfy every member of your crew.
Swig & Swine
If you’re hankering for some great BBQ, head straight to Swig and Swine, a funky Charleston joint serving up the best smoked brisket, pork, chicken, sausage, and ribs around. Complete with delicious sides and fabulous desserts, this spot is the perfect option for families and groups. Sip on a handcrafted cocktail, small batch bourbon, or ice cold beer on the outdoor patio while you wait.
